  REVIEW:

300 finally reveals the ultimate abs exercise of ancient times . . . stacking dead bodies!  Seriously, everyone stacking dead bodies in this movie had killer abs!

Based loosely on the graphic novel by Frank Miller and even more loosely based on real life events, 300 is about an infamous battle of the Spartans and the Persians back in 480 B.C..  300 stars Gerard Butler who previously starred as the Phantom in Phantom of the Opera.  In this movie, he is the king of the Spartan’s.  Spartan boys are raised to be fighting machines, so when the Kingdom is threatened to be enslaved, the King leads 300 of his men into battle against countless Persians.  The movie is filled with intense violence and gore and blood. But for the girls seeing this movie, all those killer abs are constantly on display because none of the guys wear shirts.  And for those fans of the matrix kind of slow action, the battle scenes are filled with those kind of special effects.

300 has a host of powerful and intriguing characters, a few really good lines, and a couple of great moments . . . one scene in fact that is sure to have audiences erupting in applause.  But, much of the plot, narration, and dialogue seem to have come more from an imaginative 8th grader with Dungeons and Dragons experience than from the pages of history.  The odd accents and the uncomplicated but still somewhat confusing storyline detract from drama, too.  Nonetheless, 300 is about the visual, and visually it is absolutely spectacular.  When it comes to dramatic and horrific imagery, 300 represents some very impressive filmmaking, making it an interesting and exciting experience for those who can handle it.

  MOVIE NIGHT TRAFFIC LIGHT:

On the Movie Night Traffic Light on a scale of GREEN meaning “Go – it’s a must see”, YELLOW meaning “Caution – it’s okay” and RED meaning “No - stop don’t do it."

We rate 300 GREEN.  Go – VERY R rated, but an amazing visual experience!
